Starry, Starry Night

Photobucket
What better way to end some time spent
gazing into space than to focus on Van Gogh's "Starry Night"?
Such fun to pull out the old elementary tubs and start introducing the littles to great artists.  Our printables came from this amazing resource
Photobucket
We enjoyed both coloring the masterpiece and putting it
together as a puzzle.
Photobucket
This mommy and daughter masterpiece now graces our fridge.

Starry, starry night.

3, 2, 1...Blast Off! (& a Chan Must-Watch)

Photobucket
Space.  We've memorized scripture,
Photobucket
covered pink walls with glowing planets,
Photobucket
done some fun crafts,
Photobucket
tried out being an astronaut,
Photobucket
attempted to wrap our brains around visiting space,
Photobucket
and had our own private planetarium experience.
Photobucket
Now we blast off, on to new things.
A change has occurred though.
Photobucket
Wisdom isn't the only thing that we have gained.
In the dark of the planetarium, illuminated by the glow of stars,
you can't help but be overwhelmed by the majesty of it all.
The power of the sun, an orbiting moon, constellations, galaxies.
It is too majestic to be a random accident.
We trust that it was created, thoughtfully designed.

Just a few hours later, someone shared this short clip.

Coincidence?

So we'll spend more time under the night sky.
Whispering into little ears,
"God MADE all this for us.
He speaks to us EVERY night through all this beauty.
Aren't we blessed?"

Glory abounds.

Goodnight Moon

She's always been fascinated with the moon.
Looking for it through windows on late night drives.
Running into the driveway long after bedtime to find it,
and then squeal with delight.
Peaking through her nighttime blinds to point it out.
Photobucket
We've been reading about it by day,
and now she sleeps with it by night.
(Thanks, Kari.  We've gratefully enjoyed it and will hestitantly return it!)
Photobucket
We made our own moon with white paint mixed with salt, then used a bottle cap to make craters.
Photobucket
And we've read, and reread these books.
Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me is one of our all time fave Eric Carle books.  (Loved these story props.)

Goodnight stars, goodnight air.
Goodnight noises everywhere.

Here Comes the Sun

Photobucket
Our next stop in the solar system for
our "little darling" was the sun.
Photobucket
Since the sun is made up of swirling gases,
we swirled some paint together for some solar art.
Idea taken from here.

Photobucket
Extra proud of our artwork, we moved onto painting little hands!

Later, while on a little "science field trip",
we got to check out how truly powerful the sun can be.
Sun going into these panels,
Photobucket
brings energy to this little solar house.
And the little runner oozing energy?
Hers came from peanut butter toast.

Here comes the sun
Here comes the sun, and I say
It's all right.

To Infinity and Beyond!

Photobucket
Space is the topic and all things are a go!
With tickets in hand, we kicked off our study of the solar system
with a visit to a puppet show.

Photobucket
How fun it is to see our world, and our vast and beautiful
solar system through the eyes of a four year old.
Our little scientist has always been mesmerized
by the moon and the stars.   Expanding that interest to talking about how our Earth orbits around the Sun has been a fun blessing.
Photobucket
We loved doing a coffee filter Earth craft found here
We tried both watercolor pencils and markers,
and were most impressed by the markers.
More coffee filter, water bottle and marker crafting will be in our future.

Photobucket
I am grateful for this opportunity to be re-amazed at our Earth.
Photobucket
Thanks to our friends and family for sticking with us through our homeschooling posts.  I've connected with lots of other schooling mommas and have really enjoyed it!   No worries g-parents, the photos of our sweeties will continue...as will tons of posts about adoption, parenting, faith and service.
