Learning for Littles: Pumpkins

Home school preschool is already close to this momma's heart.   
I'm going to be posting ideas here to share
and to remember for next year. 

Our trip to the pumpkin patch was the "field trip" that started off some at home learning.  We made pumpkin muffins for family, snacked on pumpkin seeds and learned all kinds of things.  Thanks to our beloved pal the library system, we read tons-o books and then made a book about the life cycle of a pumpkin. 

An idea copied from No Time for Flashcards,
we placed foam numbers all over the carpet.  When a number was called out, a pumpkin was placed on that number. 
Needing to get our art on, she used her fists and
some paint to make a little patch. 
(This idea was taken from a blog that I forgot to save. 
Kudos to the momma who had the idea.) 

Cooking utensils, Play-Doh, a pie tin and some spices helped our little baker make a delicious, pretend pie. 

We played a pumpkin grid counting game found here. 

A poetry basket was a new, and instantly loved, addition to our little preschool time.   I saw this idea on Counting Coconuts and
My Montessori Journey and loved it immediately. 

Lots of other pumpkin activities were thrown in
for a week of pumpkin learning.
