A Sponsor's Prayer

Photobucket
Dear God,

Who is this child that you've placed in our lives?  Sponsorship is a blessing, but are we getting it?  Are we connecting the dots between your heart, his heart and our own hearts?

All those years ago, your leading to sponsor him was clear. So, we logged on to Compassion's sponsorship page to find a sea of faces in need of a connection, of provision.  So many names, needs and countries.  His face stood out though.  We saw who you intended for our family. His little, too big suit and dusty black shoes tugged our hearts. Little Olupot Thomas in Uganda.  You had a plan, didn't you?

Now, his letters arrive, and we linger over them.  We smile at his drawings and feel grateful for the provision for his family.  Humbled that our lives are connected to his.  But then, we file him away.  Are we missing your voice speaking to us through his hand?

His picture is on our fridge.  We see him when we fill our cups with water or when we sneak a snack.  We've watched him grow up.  But do we ever really see him?  Would you want us to see him like You see him?

We try to remember to write him letters.  Sometimes we do.  Often though, life gets in the way.  You've given us the opportunity to touch a little heart across the globe.  Are we taking it?  Could words written on a page be your plan?

Connect the dots, Lord.  Sometimes we go through the motions of the monthly donations, but miss him as your child.  Sometimes we forget about him.   Help us not to.

Maybe you have something to say to him.

Maybe you have something to say to us.

In Your Name, Amen.

Check out the sea of faces needing sponsorship.  There just might be someone for your family.

Compassion International

Blogging has been a gift to our family.
A scrapbook, a creative outlet, and a way to connect all in one.
I've shared family fun, emotions about adoption, parent thoughts,
mission trip photos and home school lesson plans.
Silliness, seriousness and everything in between.

This blog is us.
Us minus the blunders, grumpy times,
bunches of tears, and the plentiful parenting mess-ups that is.

The unexpected blessing has been the opportunity
to use it to make a little change in the world.
Whipping up a post about a charity results in abundant
donations of baby formula for Ethiopia,
donation checks to Half the Sky Foundation for Chinese orphans,
shoes for kids in Haiti, or underwear for girls in Zimbabwe.
You've donated supplies and funds,
and supported fundraisers for adoptive friends.
We clearly have the biggest hearted
family, friends and blog buds!

Our next endeavor?
Blogging for Compassion International
Sponsoring a child is long-term, sustainable ministry
to the least of these.
