While in Ocean City, we fell in love.
We ventured out to a nearby wildlife preserve
and fell in love with Assateague Island.
and fell in love with Assateague Island.
How could you not?
among marshes, egrets, seagulls and ospreys.
Where little girls learn to see beauty in nature.
Not through books,
but through
hearing the sound of crabs clicking on a wooden boardwalk,
through wading into the cold water,
and exploring trails that meander through wetlands and sand dunes.
It is an island with a perfect, pristine beach.
Untouched by hotels and restaurants.
It is beach perfection.
Family bliss.
How many can say that they have seen wild horses?
We left in awe.
Blessed.
We left in awe.
Blessed.
Determined to never again visit the OC
without a day spent on Assateague Island.
And kayaking there?
without a day spent on Assateague Island.
And kayaking there?
Added to the bucket list, friends.
We shall not cease from exploration.
And at the end of our exploring
will be to arrive where we started
and to know the place for the first time.
~ T.S. Eliot

What a truly special place to spend time at. Those horses are so beautiful.
What a neat place. Would like to have some of these pictures.
I grew up in Maryland and remember loving that island. Something very special about it. What a fun thing to do as a family! Loved the photos. I remember as a girl loving a book called "Misty of Chincoteague"--maybe it would be good read aloud for your girls.
Love all your vacation pictures.
Love,
Mom
Madeline and her buddies marvelled at your horse pics - that is where they all want to go for vacation now!
I love the pics of Claire, she's either gotten bigger, or more relaxed, or both, because now she smiles more in pics :-) AND Sophia looks like such a big girl! Toddler no more....
We spent last Tuesday at Assateague! Loved it:) We were on a grand tour of Delmarva, wrapping it up with a couple days in DC. Very fun trip.
What a beautiful experience for your family. Amazing photos that make me want to visit!
Beautiful, beautiful photos, and what a fantastic trip. We have enjoyed the Marguerite Henry books as a family and I have long desired to visit the actual land. Now you have inspired me to make that dream come true (sometime...). Thank you :o)
