We.made.butter.
Seriously.
Butter.
My sweet girl and I have been curling up with
some Laura Ingalls Wilder as of late.
some Laura Ingalls Wilder as of late.
The tales of life in the "Big Woods" have captivated us.
Encounters with bears, wagon rides to town, scary panthers,
sugar snow, fiddle playing and Pa's stories by firelight.
sugar snow, fiddle playing and Pa's stories by firelight.
Four year old Sophia is quite enthralled with four year old Laura.
When reading that the "Little House" littles made their own butter,
we decided to shake up some of our own. As in homemade butter. To our delight, shaking up one cup of cream and 1/4 teaspoon of salt in a mason jar (with some glass stones thrown in) actually creates butter.
Our yummy, spreadable creation made the best ever buttered toast.
It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.

This is so neat. What a great idea.
Those stories are perfect and I can see Sophia loving them.
We loved little house too!!! I bet the butter was yummy! Blessings!
Love it! I have a bunch of Little House childrens books (picture books) that I can pass down if you'd like :-)
My Daughter and I are reading Little House right now! I remember making butter when I was little at a farm expo, but I couldn't remember exactly how. I can't wait to try this! Thanks for sharing at the weekly kids co-op. I am a new follower. I hope you will stop by True Aim.
I love taking a book as inspiration and turning it into some play or activity. I bet your toast was extra yummy with *homemade* butter. Thanks for sharing this with the Kids Co-op.
