As much as the big sites have been impressive here in Beijing, most fascinating has been observing life on the streets. China's culture is deep and wide.
We are already mourning taking Claire out of her birth country. It is a significant loss. She is Chinese first, Chinese-American second. When we land in Detroit, she will officially be a US citizen. As excited as we are, we are sad at what she'll/we'll leave behind. We know that many adoptees sometimes have no desire to connect with their birth countries. Our desire is that at some point, she'll want to know, want to connect and want to learn about China. We won't pressure her, but we hope she does.
The Chinese children are beautiful. So adorable in their colorful, mismatched outfits and multiple pony tails. We wish that someone would give us a lifetime supply of clothes for Claire picked out by a Chinese person! The clothes we have packed for her are seeming so American!

Very interesting. Good thoughts. I know you will do your best to help her retain some of her connection to her homeland.
She'll be blessed to have both an American home and a Chinese heritage.... and parents who will help her understand both - she's a lucky girl!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I can't wait to hear more. Get some rest!!
We went to REI tonight and knew that we would not bump into the Team, but just being there made us think of you.
Have a safe trip. Soak in all the sights, sounds, smells and ambience of China. We are following your journey and keeping you in our prayers.
