Feeding Station

Everyday they come, walking in from all directions. Everyday the menu is the same, sadza (cornmeal mush) and greens. They eat with their hands and sit on the ground. I saw no drinks other than a spigot that kids held cups under. Absent were parents, juice boxes, and desserts. They ate every bite of the food in their bowls.

This little one sat quietly wearing an old men's pajama top and ripped skirt with no shoes.

After eating, they played and sang.
We smiled at them, played with them, took their picture and tried not to think about our overloaded refrigerators and pantries back home. How many times have we said, "I'm starving!"? How many times have we thrown away leftover food or food that doesn't get eaten because there are too many other options? How many times have we complained about the food we are given? More good lessons, more good reminders to thank God for the bounty of food we have.

"When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and the alien. I am the LORD your God." Leviticus 23:22

Thanks for sharing these great, precious pictures. I see the future of Africa, of Zimbabwe in these kid's faces and my prayer for them is that the holy spirit takes up shop in their hearts and never, ever lets go. That they can not be undone by the chains of their circumstances and that they WILL make a difference.

Thank you Rebecca. Thank you.

Oh - and yeah - since stepping foot on African soil - the word "starving" isn't even allowed in our house and we do call each other out when we accidentally hear the other use it...

We know NOTHING of starving...

Thank you again for sharing. We need to see these pictures and hear their stories. Again, I am struck by their beautiful smiling faces.

Thank you for taking the time and not packing it all in one journal. After I read each entry - I just reflect and count my blessings. I am sharing this with the girls... I know they can't grasp what you experienced but I'm hoping it will remind them of all their blessings.

I can't wait for the day that we can go on a mission trip as a family.

Looking forward to more ...

What absolutely beautiful faces.

I certainly won't be saying I'm starving anymore - and I will think twice before throwing something out of my pantry.

These children are amazing...
