Solitude

While in KY, Sophs and I spent a quiet day walking on the grounds of a local monastery. It was a mostly cloudy day, but we had a wonderful time just walking and soaking in the solitude. This peaceful, contemplative place was the perfect way to spend a few hours.
We walked through the fields of grass and chased after butterflies.
We enjoyed meandering up to a statue on a hill.

Once at the top, we read the two beautiful books that we bought at the gift shop. I am a huge Tomie dePaola fan, and was happy to add another book to our collection. The Color of Me is a book that I'd happily recommend to all. It is about how God made our world beautiful through His use of different colors in flowers, animals and people. It is a message that we hope Sophs will take to heart. We also tried some "monk cheese", but couldn't eat much because it was big time stinky! (Not so "mild" after all!)
Simple chairs were placed around the hilltop statue. This was a peaceful place where the monks go to ponder and pray.
All this peacefulness made us both ready for a snooze.

"In solitude, where we are least alone." -Lord Byron
